Sponsorship - Sean Evans

The Archery Warehouse UK is proud to sponsor Sean Evans.

wp61ea40fd.gif Sean Evans first picked up a bow at the age of 9 in the summer of 2000, at a fun session run by Aylesbury Council during the school summer holidays.

Sean then undertook a beginner’s course run by Buckland Archers.  Even then, the instructors commented that he was the right build and attitude to go far in the sport if he wished and had the right support.

Immediately after the course he joined Buckland Archers Junior Club and within a month had his own wooden take down bow.  Right from the start Sean was interested in participating in competitions even stating that if he was restricted to just shooting at the club he could not see himself continuing the sport.

After an initial period of practice at the club, Sean started going to local competitions and enjoyed success in a number of these, although at this stage winning or being placed was not the driving force.  Sean enjoyed the atmosphere and structure of the events.

On average he participated in one competition a month and shot at the archery club once a week.

For a number of years Sean enjoyed shooting as a hobby, meeting archers at events and taking any successes as they came.  During this time Sylvia Kennedy became Buckland Junior Club Leader and was very encouraging with Sean’s technique.

Combining Sylvia’s coaching with Sean’s interest, determination and ability led to increased successes - as can be seen in the list on the right.  Continued coaching by Sylvia, alongside hard work, dedication and the right competitions led to the point where Sean applied to join the Junior Squad in November 2006, was assessed in December at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, and was accepted into the Junior Squad in January 2007.

Sean has an allocated coach, Graham Williams, from Lilleshall Performance Unit who works with Sylvia.  The coaching programme is overseen by Coach Manager Maggie Squires and Head Coach Mr Peter Suk.

Sean is dedicated to his training programme - shooting 300 arrows a day, circuit training twice a week plus regular specific muscle training and general fitness training.

The Archery Warehouse UK proudly sponsors Sean with equipment and training facilities - and wishes him the best of luck in his future competitions.
